Applying for WDCSITE Member or Affiliate Status
There are two ways to "belong" to the Washington D.C. Section of ITE. The first and more beneficial is to become an ITE National member. As a National Member you'll get the ITE Journal magazine subscription as well as e-newsletters, book discounts, training discounts, and discounts at District and International meetings instead of just the discounts at the local Section meetings. You'll also be able to vote and run for offices in the Section. Full details are at http://www.ite.org/membership/index.asp.
Minimum Requirements for ITE National (Voting) Membership: You must have an undergraduate or graduate degree in a transportation related field from a school of recognized standing and you must be active in transportation or traffic engineering work, OR if you do not have an undergraduate or graduate degree in a transportation related field, you must have five years of professional experience in transportation or traffic engineering work.
Minimum Requirements for ITE National (Non-Voting) Membership: You must be engaged in traffic or transportation engineering work OR you must be employed in a related field and contribute to the work of or assist transportation professionals OR you must be employed in commerce or industry with an interest in the transportation profession.
If you intend to join ITE National, the online application and payment process can be initiated by going to: (http://www.ite.org/emodules/scriptcontent/BeWeb/Join_Reg/JoinNow.cfm)
As long as the mailing address you list is in Maryland, Washington D.C. or Northern Virginia (Arlington or Fairfax County) you'll automatically become a member of the Washington D.C. Section along with your national membership.
The second option is to become a local Section Affiliate. This status is open only to persons in one of the following categories:
(a) Persons in the transportation and traffic engineering profession who lack sufficient experience for Institute membership or who are in the process of applying for such membership
(b) Students registered in a recognized engineering school
(c) Professionals in related fields who by virtue of stature or official position are in a position to contribute to the work of transportation and traffic engineers and who are members of another professional society
(d) Persons engaged in commerce or industry who come into frequent contact with transportation and traffic engineers and who thus have an interest in the profession and are in a position to work with and assist transportation and traffic engineers
(e) Persons engaged in Sub-professional Transportation and Traffic Engineering work.
The Affiliate application is online at http://www.wdcsite.net/pages/new_section-app.pdf (PDF Format) or http://www.wdcsite.net/pages/new_section-app.doc (Word format).
If you intend to join as a Section Affiliate, you can mail the completed application and check for $15 payable to "WDCSITE" to Josh Smith, 2009 WDCSITE Secretary-Treasurer, at the address below. Section dues are $15 annually for Affiliates.
