WORK EXPERIENCE
Currently, working on Jan ’11 – present
• Research on technologies such as intelligent vehicle and highway systems (IVHS) part of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) to mitigate distractions among young, novice drivers.
• Technical papers in “Assessing the variation of driver distractions based on Experience”
West Virginia University, WV Jan‘09 – Aug’10
Graduate Research Assistant
Assessing the variation of driver distractions based on Experience
• Research is intended to find distraction among young and novice driver’s which has been a cause of concern for many years.
• Distractions were monitored using sixty young, novice and thirty experienced drivers in real traffic using an eye, head tracking device called FaceLAB (version 4.5).
• Intersection analysis is done using Synchro 6.0 to calculate delays at intersections along the roadway to analyze non-driving time.
• Data collected from FaceLAB is analyzed with the help of Database Management tool (MySQL) and statistical analysis software (SAS).
• Results and recommendations are submitted to WVDOH and MAUTC (FHWA).
• Prepared proposals for future research projects with WVDOH.
Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority, Hyderabad, India July‘06 –Dec‘07
Civil Engineer (Entry Level)
 Belt-Way: Analysis of data collected from residential, commercial, industrial communities around the city of Hyderabad using MS Access 2003 for the planning of beltway. Assisting planners with additional data such as travel times, transit facilities and other technical details about highways, traffic.
• Corridor study: Due to robust growth of information technology (IT) companies and other establishments the corridor deserved some improvements. My duties were
a. Estimating Average Daily Traffic (ADT).
b. Existing road was re-designed by making improvements such as: adding extra lane, providing free left turns, optimizing traffic signals and proposing islands at unsignalized intersections based on Indian Roads Congress (IRC) code.
 Traffic Mobility impacts at work zones: Due to proposed construction of elevated expressway, there was a need to perform
traffic mobility analysis to regulate the normal flow of traffic to avoid work zones. I did the design phase of developing traffic control plans by estimating queue lengths, travel times and delays to determine lane closure times using Indian Roads Congress (IRC) specifications.
ACADEMIC PROJECTS
Intersection study Spring ‘08
 The intersection of US 19 and Patterson Drive near West Virginia University (WVU) coliseum has been studied for different events. The study emphasizes on optimizing signal timing to reduce overall delay of the intersection considering both local and event traffic. As a graduate student I performed intersection analysis using both Synchro 6.0 and HCS+.
Unsafe driving acts of truck involved incidents in West Virginia Spring ’08
 The objective of this study was to identify probable causes and recommend countermeasures that can reduce significant number of truck related crashes. As a graduate student I performed crash analysis using SPSS 16.0 to find out major crash pattern and their contributing cause.
Travel Demand Modeling of West Virginia University Fall ‘08
 With more than 40,000 students, staff, faculty and different transit modes such as car, bus, PRT available there was a need to model travel demand of WVU for future developments. As a graduate student I analyzed the data and performed trip generation, trip distribution, modal choice and trip assignment analysis with the help of TransCAD 5.0.
Teen involved incidents in the state of West Virginia Fall ‘08
 The main objective behind this study is to identify average distance between teen incidents and hospitals, schools. I used ArcGIS 9.2 to map the incidents by creating layers and there by analyzing the average distances between incident sites to schools and hospitals.
